Powell To Meet Arafat In Ramallah
Arafat Ostensibly Condemns Suicide Bombings

The cross aspects (below) provide enough clues as to the outcome of Powell's diplomatic mission into Ramallah. As the parties "slouch towards Endgame to be born," Powell will struggle to maintain control over the proceedings (his natal Saturn/gravitas is conjoined to the Ramallah Meeting's Midheaven) by facing off (Arafat/Powell Pluto in opposition to Powell's Jupiter-Pallas). The 10th house Aries Sun is the Release Point for the Sun/Jupiter T-square but is intercepted (contained with the sign Pisces) and therefore offers no outlet.
The Midheaven's ruler (Neptune, Queen of Maya, at 10 Aquarius in the 8th house of death) will be squared by "peace talks" Mercury on April 18. However, I think it will be clear before that date that Arafat is lying (Mercury square Neptune) about his condemnation of suicide bombings in order to garner support for his Ramallah bail-out. The North Node in "talking" Gemini (Mercury rules the Node) is buried in the 12th house, the house often associated with "self-undoing" in old astrology texts. In that Bush's Inauguration Moon (19 Sagittarius) conjoins the South Node of this chart, and opposes the 12th house Gemini North Node, Powell and the USA should be very careful how they "hear/interpret" what Arafat says. Further, the USA cannot afford to cut secret deals (12th house) with Arafat in order to pander to moderate Arab leaders. The USA has a penchant for aligning itself with corrupt regimes in the name of band-aid foreign policy.
Powell will comes to grips with his Neptune (16 Virgo) at the time Transiting Mars squares it on May 7, 2002. Mars will also conjoin Powell's South Node at 17 Gemini: "All the talking leads to the same old thing." This Mars hit also sets the stage for the last Saturn-Pluto opposition (Gemini/Sagittarius axis). These transits to Powell's natal chart place him under enormous pressure maintain faith in his mission. He is liable (along with the USA) to be excoriated (scapegoating) by the world press. Powell appears to believe deeply in the political answer (discussions/negotiations/bargaining), but will shortly encounter a great disillusionment. The Lunar Nodes, the transits of Mars, Saturn and Pluto, drag all mideast players more deeply into the mire.
Pluto is retrograde presently, and will not achieve direct motion until August, 2002. At that time, Pluto will have moved back to 14 Sagittarius: the degree of Arafat and Israel's Lunar Nodes (14 Taurus/14 Scorpio). Mars's transit through Gemini and subsequent conjunction with Saturn in the sign (and opposition to Pluto) equates to a bloody stalemate. All the eclipses for 2002 have strong focus upon the signs Gemini/Sagittarius and set off the natal lunar nodes for Powell, Bush Inauguration Chart, Yasser Arafat, Ariel Sharon and Israel's birth chart. Peace is not in the offing.
Cross Aspects & Sensitive Degrees
- The Midheaven for the Ramallah Meeting, 27 Pisces, is conjoined by Powell's natal Saturn.
- Arafat's Pluto (19 Cancer) and Venus (24 Cancer) and Colin Powell's Pluto (26 Cancer, conjoined to Bush's natal Saturn) conjoin in the first house of the chart.
- Arafat's Pluto (19 Cancer) is in the degree of the Lunar Nodes (North 19 Gemini/South 19 Sagittarius. Arafat's Pluto quincunxes the South Node in the 6th house of the meeting chart.
- Powell's Jupiter (24 Capricorn) and Pallas Athena, the asteroid of "strategy," oppose the aforementioned Cancerian planets in the 7th house - the house of open enemies, diplomacy, advocacy, and agreements.

The Ramallah Meeting Moon (11 Taurus) applies to a conjunction with Arafat's natal Moon (22 Taurus) and Sharon's natal Moon (25 Taurus). Transiting Uranus at 27 Aquarius is still in orb of square to Arafat and Sharon's natal Moons. The fixed modality indicates a stubborn attachment to one's point of view.
- Powell's natal Lunar Nodes (North 17 Sagittarius/South 17 Gemini) are in the degree of transiting Pluto (17 Sagittarius).
- Powell's natal Mars at 5 Sagittarius, will be impacted by the Lunar Eclipse of May 26, 2002 (the day of the last Saturn-Pluto opposition). Transiting Mars on eclipse day will be at 28 Gemini, the degree of the Moon for September 11, 2001's WTC/Pentagon disaster, as will Transiting Uranus in Aquarius.

RAMALLAH, West Bank ( CNN) --Palestinian Authority leaders issued a statement Saturday condemning the killing of Palestinian and Israeli civilians, raising the possibility that a postponed meeting between Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell would be re-scheduled.
"We strongly condemn violent operations that target Israeli civilians, especially the last operation in Jerusalem," the statement said. "We also strongly condemn the massacre and the killing Israel occupation forces have, and are still, committing against Palestinian civilians and refugees in the city of Nablus and the Jenin refugee camp and the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem and other Palestinian territories over the past two weeks."
A senior U.S. official said the Bush administration is examining the statement "We are looking carefully at what he said," the senior administration official told CNN.
Danny Ayalon, an adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, dismissed the Palestinian condemnation saying, "I would say that we are witnessing the continued pattern of committing Palestinian terror and then sending some obscure press releases afterwards. Palestinian words are meaningless without concrete action to stop terrorism."
Powell, who met with Sharon on Friday, is trying to bring about a political settlement to the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Sharon and Powell failed to agree on when Israel should end its West Bank military operations that have included sealing off Palestinian towns in an attempt to destroy what it calls "the Palestinian terrorist infrastructure."
The Palestinians have said more than 500 died in the operation; the Israelis have said that "hundreds" were killed or wounded.

Revisit Newsmakers, April 5, 2002, Powell Set for Mideast; Yasser Arafat; Ariel Sharon
" Within a day (April 5-6, 2002), T-Mars will conjoin Sharon's Moon at 25 Taurus (one degree shy of the malevolent fix star, Caput Algol). Since Caput Algol is associated with the beheading of kings; the "fall" of heads of state, will the Mars-Uranus square of April 10 signify diminution of status for Sharon, Arafat or Powell? Or will it signal something more sinister, such as an assassination?"
Now, fast forward to today. Mars is at 29 Taurus, conjoined to the fixed Star, ALCYONE, the star associated with "great grief. Thus far, we haven't seen an assassination, but today's suicide bombing, performed by a teenaged Palestinian girl, is grief enough. Saudi Arabia, taking a page from Jerry Lewis' Playbook, ran their own 24-hour telethon and raised $100 million dollars ostensibly for the families of martyrs. Translation: $100 million more dollars are set to be pumped into Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, Hamas, Al Aqsa and Al Qaeda. Add that total to the Opium crop value ready for the harvest in Afghanistan, and you have about $300 million dollars. That is the exact sum the USA pledged in donations to rebuild Afghanistan's infrastructure in 2002. Not a penny of that money (nor a penny of worldwide aid packages) has yet to meet the Interim Government's coffers. The problem? The international community believes the aid money will fall into the wrong hands. So, who do you think is winning the war on terrorism?
Back to Powell. I mentioned on April 5 that when Mars reached 26 Taurus, the CAPUT ALGOL point, we'd see the "fall" of a head of state or, at the very least, a diminution of the status of a head of state. Result: Powell and Arafat.
- Powell took a week's junket to Morocco, Egypt, Spain and Jordan before landing in Jerusalem late in the evening on April 11. What was the burning question? "Why aren't you in Jerusalem?" Powell, a gentleman and the most moderate of Bush's cabinet members, has the thankless task of making an "appearance" to discuss a situation that has no solution. Powell is the fall guy or "designated scapegoat." The international community will blame him when it becomes clear that no amount of shuttle diplomacy can stem the tide. I have heard numerous speculations as to why Powell's trip to the mideast was delayed. Some speculate that Bush and Sharon privately agreed to the delay. Others opine that Powell needed to visit moderate Arab leaders in advance to shore up flagging support. I think both are true.
- Yasser Arafat. Give me a break. This man is not a statesman. He knows the gig is up, so he's playing his last card: massive suicide bombings that may well result in his assassination. Or exile. In either case, he will be "martyred." He then becomes the legendary "freedom fighter." A religious icon. Arafat is perverse. He has poisoned the minds of the very people he promised to lead to prosperity, peace, and safety.
- Freedom Fighters: Caesar Chavez. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Mohandas K. Gandhi. Can anyone doubt that passive resistance is a profound weapon of "war?" Gandhi brought the British Empire to its knees while advocating nonviolence.
- Arafat is not a freedom fighter.

Mars at 29 Taurus (Alcyone) is in the 8th house of death in Israel's natal chart. Saturn applies to the third and final opposition to Pluto and is in square to Israel's natal Saturn and Pluto. Mars moves into nervous Gemini Saturday, April 13 (Saturn's Day), and reaches its conjunction with T-Saturn (and squares Israel's N-Saturn and Pluto) on May 2, 2002. Mars' conjunction to T-Saturn sets up the Saturn-Pluto opposition of May 25, 2002.
T-Venus in Israel's 7th house of open enemies is in the degree of her natal Lunar Nodes. She also squares Israel's natal Saturn and Pluto. Venus's hit to the nodes brought another "fated" bombing event to the heart of Israeli life: the shopping hours that precede Shabbat: worship day.
The asteroid Ceres (female, associated with food and agriculture) is in the 5th house of pleasure in Israel's chart. It is interesting that the transit of Ceres coincides with Jordan's natal Moon (19 Pisces. Israel's Juno of "marriage" is also 19 Pisces). Yesterday Queen Rania of Jordan led a demonstration in the streets of Amman, Jordan on behalf of the Palestinian peoples. I seriously doubt that Queen Rania would want one of her sisters to offer herself up as a human bomb. Yet, the fact remains: the Arab nations continue to align themselves with terrorist organizations.
Is it too chilling to mention that the transiting Lunar Nodes at 19 degrees Gemini/Sagittarius are in the degree of the Bush Inauguration Moon (19 Sagittarius) and Uranus (19 Aquarius)? Inauguration Mars squares Israel's Saturn! As I never tire of saying, whether the USA likes it or not, we are bound by fate to the middle east. [Since no U.S. president wants to touch the middle east with a 10 foot pole until at least one year in office -- or into a second term of office -- Bush's denial of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is nothing new. However, in light of September 11, such negligence is unforgiveable.]
Mars and Saturn together equals the classic "stalemate." Mars wants to violently move forward while Saturn resists and persists in the status quo over time. It is hardening of the arteries in medical astrology, and in the middle east we've got two tough old birds (Sharon/Arafat) who appear to have O.D.ed on viagra. Unfortunately, the world has a headache, and neither can find a safe place to stick it.
The Lunar Nodes also hook up with Jordan's Moon at 19 Pisces. I predict that Jordan will be drawn ever deeper into the Arab conflict and will be forced to choose what team it plans to play on. It doesn't appear that Jordan will remain on semi-friendly terms with Israel. Jordan's Mars at 15 Leo and Pluto at 9 Leo conjoin Israel's N-Saturn and Pluto. Mars-Saturn-Pluto: a war of survival. We must understand survival as one's right to exist. That is, to dwell inside a body (Saturn) as a living entity. Mars, Pluto and Saturn indicate a battle that reaches down to the most primitive level: cellular/genetic existence/integrity. The paradox is that a fight for survival can turn into the philosophy of Nihilsim. Hence, the extreme solutions: Arafat wants Israeli's eradicated. Israeli hardliners want Palestinians shipped out in parcels of 20,000 to surrounding arab nations.
[Bob Woodward of the Washington Post stated on Larry King Live (April 12, 2002) that on the day Richard M. Nixon resigned the presidency he said that if you hate your enemy, you destroy yourself. Arafat and Sharon have a decades-old hatred for each other.]
How will it go for Jordan domestically when T-Mars hits 16 Gemini, the degree of Jordan's Uranus. Jordan, like Saudi Arabia, faces the real possibility of open revolt among the masses.

March 30, 2002: T-Moon enters Scorpio and will conjoin Arafat's South Node at 14 Scorpio over Easter weekend. Arafat's Lunar Nodes (14 Taurus/North & 14 Scorpio South) are conjoined to Israel's natal Lunar Nodes. Arafat's natal Moon is conjoined to Israel's natal Sun. April 7, 2002: T-Mars at 25 Taurus conjoins Sharon's natal Moon. One day later, T-Mars is within orb of its exact square with Uranus and conjoins the most malevolent of fix stars in the heavens: Caput Algol. T-Mars will square Sharon's natal Neptune at 27 Leo. Sharon's Taurus Moon in square to Neptune is most likely the aspect Palestinians identify with when they call Sharon "Hitler." Hitler's natal Vertex was 27 Taurus, a fated point in the Nazi dictator's chart. 25 to 27 degrees of the fixed signs are especially powerful in Sharon's chart. Hence, the Palestinian people "resonate" with the comparison.
Sharon's progressed Sun is 20 Taurus and is conjoined by T-Mars today.
