The Watergate Plumbers'
30 Year Anniversary

From Richard Nixon's diary: "On the way back [Nixon was vacationing in Key, Biscayne, Florida] I got the disturbing news from Bob Haldeman that the break-in of the Democratic National Committee involved someone on the payroll of the Committee to Re-Elect the President."

"Nixon did not indicate that he knew anything about the burglary and arrests three days before. ¹

". . .The law -- three Washington policemen -- had caught up with Liddy [G. Gordon Liddy] and Hunt's [E. Howard Hunt] burglars in the early hours of Saturday morning, June 17. . . . Liddy had told Hunt they had to go back into O'Brien's office because one bug installed by McCord on May 27-28 was not working. . ."²

"Barker turned his walkie-talkie on and whispered, 'They've got us.'"³

"A prudent ruler, therefore, cannot, and should not, keep his word when keeping it is to his disadvantage, and when the reasons that made him promise no longer exist. For if all men were good, this precept would not hold, but since they are bad and would not keep their word to you, you do not have to keep yours to them. Nor is there ever a shortage of legitimate reasons to disguise your disregard. ... Everyone understands how laudable it is for a prince to keep his word and live with integrity and not cunning. Nonetheless, experience shows that nowadays those princes who have accomplished great things have had little respect for keeping their word and have known how to confuse men's minds with cunning. In the end, they have overcome those who have preferred honesty."

Machiavelli, The Prince.

Prologue

August 5, 2001: the first of three Saturn-Pluto oppositions in the signs Gemini and Sagittarius. The two hard-core "changers" carried us over a brutal threshold marrying us to what may become the most frightening of historic eras. The Saturn-Pluto conjunction of 1982 (Reagan presidency/Iran-Contra) heralded the ten year birthday of "The Silent Majority." The Pat Buchanans and Jerry Fallwells reveled in visions of political and biblical Armegeddon. By 2001, it appeared that their "dream" might come true.

[Factoid: Bush's nickname for his Crawford, Texas Ranch, "The Western White House," was originally coined by Richard M. Nixon who named his San Clemente, California home by the same name. Nixon's Florida home was nicknamed "The Southern White House."]

On August 6, 2001, George W. Bush was briefed on possible terrorist activities on USA soil while vacationing a full 30 days at "The Western White House." The disclosure of this news during late May (May 28, 1972 is the date of the first Watergate Plumbers' break-in) and early June, 2002, caused the media to ask the question: "What did he know? When did he know it?" These are the same questions asked of Nixon after Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward of the Washington Post broke the Watergate story.

The 29 1/2 to 30 year cycle of Saturn ("The Saturn Return") of historic events always marks a turning point. Issues become "ripe." The Saturnian necessity to revisit and restructure political life is an inevitablity bound up with the 20 year Saturn-Jupiter cycle. A conjunction of the two signals a rebirth and/or revisioning of America's socio-economic platform. The 30-plus year cycle of Saturn-Uranus equates to new orders and political reform.

Issues That Are Ripening

The Saturn Return of the 1972 ABM Treaty (1999-2001) found George W. Bush unilaterally nixing it in the face of world outcry. The world consciousness is revisiting the nuclear question as a whole. Pakistan and India. Al-Qaeda's Dirty nuke plots. One antecedent take us back to August 1945 -- the USA dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. (57 years = 30 years = 20 years = 7 years. In 2005, Hiroshima/Nagasaki meets its second Saturn Return.)

From Wolfstar's Stariq "Newscope":

"(December 2, 1942, at 3:25 pm CWT), a rare conjunction of Saturn and Uranus in Gemini was rising. This was closely opposed by a conjunction in Sagittarius, including the Sun. "

Saturn represents structure; in the chain-reaction chart, it was conjunct Uranus (the planet after which man-made Uranium was named), which represents energy and the breaking of structure. With this stressful conjunction, humanity experienced the irreversible breaking of matter, the release of the nuclear force and the beginnings of a long-term relationship with atomic energy and nuclear crisis.

The Nuclear Axis

Repeated nuclear events over the past 58 years have led some astrologers to describe these degrees across early Gemini-Sagittarius as "the nuclear axis," which is highly sensitive to transits. One critical degree in this axis appears to be Saturn's location at the time of the first chain reaction, 8 degrees 56 minutes of Gemini."

Women

Another example of Saturnian ripeness is the revisitation of Roe v. Wade (1972), the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case allowing women the right to abortion. Each Republican administration since 1972 has sought to overturn the ruling. George W. Bush and his administration are seeking to do the same. It is rumored that Bush is pushing for a new law that would make it legal for a women to have an abortion, but illegal for a medical practitioner to perform one. This is akin to the USA's marijuana laws. It is legal to smoke weed, but illegal to sell it. Thus, the "problem" is averted by creating a Catch-22.

How About Global Warming?

April 22, 1970: The first Earthday. 29 1/2 years later Bush announces that he will not support the Kyoto Accords. A fact recently reiterated on cable TV. Bush will leave the issue to the conscience of Big Business, which has already proven itself to be more in alignment with the Whore of Babylon than Mother Theresa. Meanwhile, the State of Colorado is burning to the ground as we speak. Not that global warming has anything to do with that, or the two icebergs that broke away from the Antarctic. According to cable news reports, both bergs were close in size to State of New Jersey. But the Bush administration believes that ecology is "fuzzy science." It believed that Democrat Gore's economic plan to save the surplus for emergencies was "fuzzy math." After September 11th, as America's economy dipped into red ink, Bush wants Big Business to have more tax cuts.

Overview of Saturn:

Saturn creates the necessary order, structure, form and functions to mitigate the chaotic factors inherent in the negotiations of group enterprises. Saturn is associated with institutions representing the legal system, civil service, and all restraining/restricting forces in society. Saturn is rules, procedures, and guidelines. Saturn is associated with the administration of justice and has its affilations with police (law enforcement) and also the regimentation of military life and discipline. The attitude of a nation toward law, order, taboos, old practices, the old guard in politics, etc., are also associated with Saturn.

Overview of Uranus:

Campion says that Uranus, more than any other planet, "has characteristics derived from its association with mundane affairs." Uranus is linked to all revolutions [add Mars and you have terrorist bombings]; upheavals, strikes, rebellions, and how a society allows itself to entertain change. Uranus, an outer planet, brings change whether the collective wants it or not. Because the outer planets are associated with forces beyond the individual's control, often times the outer planets in aspect to a nation's chart nodes indicate "dates with destiny."

Corporate Scandals: The Reagan Years

Washington Post. "John Glenn was the ranking Democrat during the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee's investigation of campaign finance abuses. His attention is now focused on something higher: He has been granted a seat on a shuttle flight scheduled to lift off in October, 36 years after he became the first American to orbit Earth. He will be 77 by then and the oldest man ever in space.

Glenn first won election to the Senate in 1974. He ran a brief campaign for president in 1984. Glenn was later named one of the "Keating Five" for accepting a $200,000 contribution from convicted savings and loan executive Charles H. Keating Jr., but a 1991 Senate commission declared that his only crime was "poor judgment."

Glenn's role in the Senate fund-raising hearings struck some observers as atypical. The normally even-tempered Glenn repeatedly lambasted majority Republicans, including committee chairman Fred Thompson, for "hardball" partisanship."

Space, The Final Frontier

In 1987-1988 [the worst of "Reaganomics" marking the USA's descent into economic disaster] is where it became evident to most everyone that trickle-down economics means that "the only thing that flows downhill is shit" for the poor. This era was coincided with two Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions (big money/economic reform) and marked the 20 year anniversary of Apollo 11's landing on the Moon. John Glenn, of course, was not a part of Apollo 11, but Glenn, an astronaut, senator and American icon, was implicated in the Keating-Five scandal that erupted during Reagan's second term. In 1999, the Saturn Return of Apollo 11, John Glenn returned to space aboard the Shuttle and became the oldest living human to travel outside the earth's stratosphere.

The Bush administration's Tax Cut for Big Business (duplicating "Reaganomics") in accord with the Enron, Adelphia Cable, Tyco, Global Crossing, Arthur Andersen, et al., scandals, is yet another round of Right Wing-ism or, "back to the future." CEO's of major companies have recently been charged with insider trading; take huge salary payouts before resigning their posts; and destroying corporate entities by raping the workers. This is no different from what occurred under Reagan's watch. Ronnie was also a friend to Big Business. The GOP has raped the U.S. Treasury at least twice in the 20th Century. Bush begins the 21st Century by following suit.

I will also mention Republican president Dwight D. Eisenhower. Ike presided over the nation during the Joseph McCarthy "witch hunt" years. McCarthy and fledgling politician Richard M. Nixon compiled their "lists," and sought, Mikado Style, to assassinate the reputations of innocent Americans such as playwright Lillian Hellman, for one. Ronnie Reagan, an actor during the 1950's, turned some of his actor friends over to McCarthy. Reagan's ascension to the U.S. Presidency makes as much sense as Dubya's grandfather, Prescott Bush, becoming a U.S. Senator. Grandpa was endicted under the USA's "Trading With The Enemy Act" during World War II. He made a fortune trading with the Nazis. (More on that below).

Under Ike's watch, Nixon was eventually charged with harboring illegal campaign funds allegedly used for his private ends. This led to the famous "Checkers" speech. For those of us who can remember TV in the 1950's, we got to meet Nixon's dog, Checkers: "He was a gift, and by golly, I'm keepin' him," and learned that wife, Pat Nixon, wore nothing better than a "good Republican cloth coat" (also a gift). It was later discovered that Pat's plain cloth coat was Vicuna fur. Vicuna, a kind of Llama, is now on the world's endangered species list. According to my research on the Internet, a vicuna coat in 2002 prices out to about $10,000 to $30,000 or more. Adjusting for inflation, that might put Pat's vicuna coat at about $5,000 to $15,000. You could get a lot of cheap Wal-Mart bedspreads out of that.

Since this study is more about the Watergate anniversary than it is about George W. Bush, I'll leave you with this: the shadow, when not faced (whether by an individual or a group), by necessity rages in the unconscious until it finds release on the earth-plane as an external event. Try as he might, George W. Bush is his father's son. Bush's ancestry (fraught with scandal, including war profiting from the Nazis)(fn.5) looms heavily in his 12th house of "the sins of the father...". (Sun conjunct Saturn in Cancer). In some similar ways, Oedipus tried averting the fate forecast for him by the Oracle at Delphi. He believed power would redeem him. But try as he might, Oedipus was unable to face his own hubris and a belief in entitlement. After plucking out his eyes (symbolic of the loss of will "to see") Oedipus lived our his life in isolation at Colonus in search of true redemption. Bush has Neptune of "blindness" traveling through his 7th house of open enemies. Is the enemy out there? Or is really it within?

John Dean of Watergate fame has excoriated the Bush administration for its Nixonian secrecy. This GOP repetition compulsion is Bush's Oracle at Delphi. Just as Oedipus and Richard Nixon lived their latter years in isolation, Bush may soon become the same kind of prisoner inside the White House. Both Bush and Cheney may be headed straight into the jaws of a Nixonian hydra.

That being said, let's look at Richard M. Nixon and Watergate.
