"The new moon birth on November 15, 2001 is at 6:41UT i.e., Nov 15, 1:41am EST or
November 14, 10:41pm PST. As you can see from the visibility curves, on Nov 15, although the age of
the moon is 14-18 hours at sunset in North America, the moon cannot be seen in North America even
with telescopes. Naked eye sighting is impossible on Nov 15 in North America. However, on Nov 16,
most of the world would see the moon. It will be a big moon in North America because its age will be
38-42 hours. So the first day of fasting (of Ramadan) for most of the world is expected to be Saturday,
November 17, except Hawaii, where it could be November 16."
