There are three kinds of Pluto ruled Scorpios, and any person born under the sign can demonstrate all three depending on the circumstances. First is the scorpion, the one that gets so much publicity for creating "evil." That type is called the unregenerate Scorpio, a spiritual renegade hell-bent on enlisting the universe to do his/her will. Manipulation is one of Pluto's darker sides. The second type is the eagle. This type is still secretive but is able to remain much more self-controlled. The third type is the dove Scorpio, the highest path that can be fulfilled, and all Scorpios, whether they admit it or not, are groping toward that end. Scorpio has the power to heal, to regenerate, to create and to destroy. Mars, as co-ruler with Pluto, forms an atomic power base from which Scorpio will either triumph or succumb.
Pluto in mythology is god of the underworld. No one is more familiar with the underside of things than Scorpio. Carrying the burden of life, death, regeneration, metamorphosis, creation and destruction is more than humans can bear, yet Scorpio, in its purest state, supplies all the healing and regenerating powers needed to survive the many losses suffered in one lifetime. Scorpio is master of death, loss, and irrevocable change. Scorpio is also master of sex, for the mystery of sex is caught up with death -- the ultimate surrender, whether it be to the grave or to one's lover's bed. Regeneration from the root chakra to the crown chakra is Pluto and Scorpio's province. A sudden loss, falling deeply in love, mourning one's dreams are all potential stages for ultimate surrender and rebirth into a new being.
Being master of such journeys is no light responsibility and traversing the underworld can make Scorpio naturally secretive, suspicious and jealous. Victories and regenerations are hard won, and not even this Pluto ruled sign can easily forego what the heart and body desire. Yet Scorpio is called to do just this.
Scorpio's mirror is found in its polar opposite, Taurus. Venus ruled Taurus supplies Scorpio with patience, nourishment, stabilty and an eye for beauty that can open this secretive Plutonian to the joys of life in the sun. Sensuality can be joyful and light and Scorpio needs to learn more about lightness. Taurus' love of the earth and its splendors heals the Scorpionic defense mechanism that seeks to find darkness everywhere. Pluto is a harsh ruler when erasing the blackboard of life. Yet the paradox is that all things removed rebirth as something higher. Taurus' gentle hand upon the face of nature is another regenerative mirror Scorpio can gaze upon. The integration takes place at the level of forgiveness and light.
