Saturn In Taurus

Venus ruled Taurus belongs to the fixed modality along with Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. It shares the earth element along with Virgo and Capricorn. Saturn, which rules Capricorn, finds comfort in Taurus after two and half years of combat with militant Mars/Aries. Saturn in Taurus brings prudence, the patience to plan, the ability to manifest slowly and permanently without loss of faith. Taurus is methodical, plodding, inclined to wealth, sensuality, jewlery, body lotions, silky fabrics and fine cashmere. Jade green is Taurus' color and it is associated with abundance, the throat chakra, a lovely singing voice (Barbara Streisand is Taurus and has Saturn there), gourmet dining, and stock portfolios.

Banking, bankers, and bank accounts fall under Taurus' purview. IRA's, Mutual Funds, stocks and bonds, organization treasurers, and our own wallets and checkbooks are Taurean in nature. What we make, save, spend, acquire, use and let loose are all Taurean issues. Taurus is the second house on the natural zodiac and is associated with what we value. Our judgment of our own self-worth, the value we assign to money, and how we use it or abuse it, are all Taurean-Venusian themes. Venus, the second of the benefactors of the heavens (Jupiter is first) is associated with Aphrodite in the sign Taurus.

Saturn, on the other hand, can be restrictive, constrictive, constraining, contracting, structured, shy, insecure, self-doubting, frugal, stingy, self-denying and cold. Saturn is also the teacher, task master, lesson planner, karma carrier, ancient Shiva, devil, Satan, bondage maker, and vulgarian. All of these traits (and there are many more) are repugnant to Venus-Aphrodite. Are you ready? We have another challenge ahead of us. First, the next two and half years are our time to clear up credit card debt, bank loans, personal loans, and our financial amends list if we are in 12 step recovery. Second, it is time to put more in the bank than we take out. It is time to cooperate with slow growth, solid planning, and the willingness to let go of momentary pleasures in favor of the long-term reward of financial security.

It is also time to reassess our values. What do we really need? Do we confuse desire with need? Saturn will see to it that inordinate desires will not be come to fruition. That is not to say that our needs for affection, intimacy and trust will not be met. On the contrary. Saturn's trek through Taurus is a time for grounding and arriving at a deeper understanding of commitment.

True commitment begins with self-worth. How deserving do we feel of more money? Do we believe we are as worthy of our commitments we make to ourselves as those we make to others? Are we worth the painstaking reorganization of our finances and abundance beliefs? We will be tested on these questions in the next two and a half years. That doesn't mean we are going to be poor. Or lonely. Or needy. It means that we reverse the excesses in our lives in order to realign our purpose. What holds us back from manifesting? How can an unbalanced Venus learn prudence from stern Father Kronos? Through conscious participation in the process.

It will be important to maintain a balance between healthy enjoyment and self-denial. Saturn tends to restrict, as mentioned above. Saturn can put a damper on Venus making it difficult to let go, relax, and enjoy the good things that come to us. Saturn is associated with fear, and Taurus is associated with hoarding when threatened. Withholding from ourselves to extremes is not in alignment with Saturn's true purpose. His lesson plan speaks of maturity and balance. Maturity comes from matching our values to our conduct. A prudent appraisal of what needs to be remedied gives us a blueprint for success. The challenge is to begin where we are right now so we can realistically arrive at the place we want to be.
