Libra's task is to balance. It is an active process, so don't think that Libra is static. The Libran mind is constantly active. Get a scale and weight something. Watch the scale tip and bob. Now you have an understanding of Libra's process-oriented psyche. There are two roads for Libra: one sacrifices opulence for elegance, extravagance for good taste, and sanity over unsound choices. This type is the judge, philosopher, writer, and politician. The second type opts for gregariousness over mediation, loud clothing instead of tailored suits, would rather drink beer than a politically correct White Wine Spritzer. Yet regardless of "style," one thing about Libra stands clear: the focus is on relationship. Libra's vision of cooperation is so real it is almost palpable. Libra craves harmony. Loud confrontation rankles this Venus child's nerves to excess. In order to achieve "balance," Libra can make the mistake of buying peace at any price.

However, Libra is not above starting arguments to prove a point. At home playing devil's advocate, Libra seeks truth through the exploration of opposites. As the sign births just before the fall equinox when day and night become even, Libra is keenly aware that soon the night will prevail. As we are more than half way through the 12 sign tour, Libra (Yin/Yang) is the gateway through which winter begins its annual scourge of green leaves and delicate florals. Deep inside every Libra is a sadness. Bearing the responsibility of ushering in the dark season of the year goes against Venus' love of visual beauty and temparate climes. It is precisely this psychic responsibility that calls Libra to learn the difference between true harmony and agreement fraught with resentment. Symbolically, winter's stripping of leaves is also the stripping of self whereby truth stands cold and naked against the wind. If truth has not been met without decoration and fanciful interpretation, it will soon be exposed as sham.

Libra is the ambassador, diplomat, judge, attorney, and therapist of the zodiac. Of the three air signs, Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, Libra is the most relational of the three. A Cardinal air sign, Libra thinks, analyzes, rehearses, and then promotes the final products of peace, cooperation, and harmony. Avid readers, Venus ruled Libras are often found in libraries, bookstores and museums. Words and pictures feed the psyche rich material which can be used to create beauty and harmony in daily life.

Libra's ultimate balance comes from rejoicing in the mirror of its opposite sign, Mars ruled Aries. Aries' interest in self and ego development balances Libra's external eyes that are thrust upon people, management impression, and fear of rejection. Aries' martial qualities aid Libra in developing the ability to participate in honest confrontation where truth matters. No compromise can be made with evil no matter how small or insignificant it may appear. Libra's tendency to procrastinate while analyzing every option are mitigated by Aries' get up and DO philosophy. Mars and Venus, symbolic of man and woman, yin and yang, reach their epitome in the truly integrated Libra. The mirror of Mars leads Libra to true Venusian balance.
