The Moon Child is the very heart of self past, present, and future. The Moon Child is the comfortable hearth from which civilization springs. The United States has its Sun in the sign of Cancer which explains why the American symbols are "mom" and "apple pie." Cancer is concerned with the vital issues of nourishment, both physical and spiritual. Cancer rules food, the intake of food, and one's heritage, clan, or tribe. The Moon ruler of Cancer governs our subconscious; childhood memories; involuntary body processes; and family trees. Cancer is fundamental identity. When you say, "I am an American," or "I am a human being," the Moon is there representing its ethnic and empathic links to the need to belong. Moonstuff is the real stuff that drives us all.
The modern Cancerian is resourceful and directed toward creating safety nets. The office, home, car, or PC area will be stocked with comforts: food, blankets, candles, incense -- all to create a protective shell. As an aside, Cancer may well have the answer to the split we experience at the dawn of the Aquarian age. With the accent on more technology and longer work hours, work sites may soon merge more fully with home, thus liberating many from the pollution of travel, noise, and overcrowding in industrial areas. Combining work and a homey atmosphere would actually boost productivity by eliminating the suffering of stress induced ailments. Cancer is a cardinal sign -- a "doer." And like it's polar opposite, Capricorn, can be highly ambitious. How ambition is manifested has everything to do with one's personal evolution. It is a mistake to think that the Moon child is ONLY psychic, empathetic and committed to children, hearth and home. Again, the U.S.A. has it's sun in Cancer -- visit the floor of the stock exchange when the Dow Jones is up -- that should provide you with a good idea of Cancer's ambitious and competitive side.
Although we may assign rulership of banks and other financial institutions to the sign Capricorn, remember that Cancer's polar opposite is the Saturn ruled goat. Intergrated signs balance each other, and Cancer's need is to look into the mirror of Capricorn and sacrifice some of the fear of loss so that the energy can be applied to what endures. Conservative, driving, Capricorn helps to balance Cancer's sensitivities by providing stamina, and a cooler view toward the personal. Cancer's natural empathic powers need to be balanced by Capricorn's pragmatic views. The goat walks slowly because it knows where it is going -- straight to the top. Cancer gains footholds on the steep mountain journey by gazing in the mirror of Saturn.
